The kNOwBOX dance Short Series (NBSS) Selected short films will be screened on @knowboxdance social media accounts for a limited time in early August 2023 and on special devices as part of the NBFF 2023 Festival lineup.

Short Series 2022 Official Selection
The official kNOwBOX dance Film Festival Summer Short Series 2022 selection featured 4 dance films from China, Italy, and Spain. NBSS 2022 streamed 4 shorts on NB social media platforms from August 6-7, 2022. These dance shorts expressed how dance and film can take us around the world in just a few short moments.

NBSS 2021 streamed 7 shorts on NB social media platforms August 7-8, 2021. These dance shorts offered unique perspectives on how dance and film can be used as entertainment and escape.

Joy-Marie Thompson
New York, New York, USA
Joy-Marie Thompson is a performer and choreographer from Pittsburgh, PA. She
received her BFA in Dance Performance from the Conservatory of Dance at SUNY Purchase. There she met Sherah Shipman, where they created their
dance short film "TONGUE TIED SHREWS". Screened in 5 film festivals inationally and internationally, "TONGUE TIED SHREWS" was also featured in the Dance Film Association's "#mydancefilm" screening at Lincoln Center. Their next film, “LINKt”, a film about the relationship between Black and white women, will premiere in 2020. Thompson has professionally performed the choreography
of Sidra Bell, Staycee Pearl, Shamel Pitts and Maxine Doyle for Sleep No More (NYC). In 2016, Thompson co-created “Interpretations”, a photo exhibit in
collaboration with Rachel Neville, where she emulated photos of famous black dance artists. Thompson is also the founder of issadancelook, a blog that archives photos of dancers’ clothes inside and outside the studio.
